I am a counsellor and supervisor. My background is working in schools and family support with in Children Centres.
I am a very calm and empathetic counsellor and believe very much in the process of the relationship between the client and the counsellor and the baring this has on bringing about positive change. I understand each client is an individual and will have a very different story. I respect this and work towards building a place where the clients feel comfortable to have and hear their own voice and work in the development of the skills they already hold that will support their issues in the best way for them.
I am a warm and friendly person and believe that counselling can also allow and give time to celebrate the joys in life when they come up in order to have a balance and normality within the counselling relationship.
Counselling for Adults
Our lives are constantly changing and sometimes these changes can have a huge impact on us. It may be that you find yourself unable to deal with situations in ways that are helpful for you. This may lead you to feel differently about yourself and others. Change can be a positive thing and sometimes we need support to understand how to adapt and manage the way we feel about this and the environment we live in.
Counselling for teenagers and young people
Counselling can support Y.P by giving them the opportunity to express how they feel and find strategies that may help them manage. For children this may be through approaches that incorporate play and creative methods. When working with children it may be helpful to include family members if this is deemed helpful.
For some teenagers and young people, growing up can be very challenging. This can come from many different areas such as having to make decisions about your future, to managing your friendships and relationships with friends and family.
It can often be a confusing time, leading to high levels of anxiety and stress. It may be that you have found ways to cope and control these issues that can be more damaging than helpful to your life.
Counselling can be a way to promote a more healthy means to managing your difficulties by finding other strategies and supporting positive communication. Sometimes it can just be helpful to have someone that really wants to hear what YOU have to say.
At present I work within my own private practice working with adults and young people and trained as an integrative counsellor. I work in a person centred approach mainly whilst integrating other models and methods that may support the client. As I counsel young people and children I work in a creative medium also, using art, sand tray and other creative approaches.
I work with issues such as anxiety, loss, stress, bereavement, personal development, self esteem,
self harm, post natal depression, parenting issues and feelings over being overwhelmed.
I work with a local charity called 'Children and Families in Grief' as a sessional therapist where we work with the whole family supporting them with their bereavement and loss. I work with the carers emotional support scheme in Torbay where we provide 6 sessions of support for carers.
As a member of the NCPS I abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and the values and principle that are practised within this.
