My journey into counselling began when I sought my own personal therapy to help me negotiate challenges in my life. Through the listening ear of my very patient counsellor I was able to reflect on my past, make sense of my situation and feel empowered to move foreword with hope and purpose into the next chapter of my story.

My initial training was with the Gloucestershire Counselling Service, followed by training in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy with Newman University. I then completed an Ascentis 3 qualification in bereavement with Cruse Bereavement Support before moving on to complete a Masters in Counselling in Children and Young People with the University of South Wales.

My counselling experience has included working voluntarily with The Well Counselling Service, Malvern and Cruse Bereavement Support. I have worked as a School Counsellor in Newport Wales, working with children and young people aged between 4 and 18 since 2014. This has included face to face, online and working on the phone-in helpline.

I have helped children with depression, behavioural issues, obsessive compulsive disorder, self-harm, anxiety, autism, family problems, anger, bullying, low self-esteem, sexual abuse and bereavement. When working with children and young people I use creative counselling skills, play and sand tray work to help the child/young person engage in the process. I often work through story making which helps the children to externalise their problem by looking at it from a different perspective. Through stories, the child or young person (or adult) can view the problem from another point of view and they do not feel exposed. This is not so exposing for them and can be great fun. Many of the games I use are made by myself and tailored to the individual child.

Since the pandemic and my recent move to the North East, I mainly work online although I do offer home visits for those living in or around Bishop Auckland.

I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and adhere to their ethics and guidelines. I am also a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and I have achieved the BACP Certificate of Proficiency.

I am a qualified integrative supervisor working online and face to face. My integrative training incorporated psychodynamic, humanistic, person centred and cognitive behaviour therapy. I aim to develop a collaborative working relationship with you, so you feel safe enough to openly explore any thoughts, feelings and experiences about your work, without judgement. I follow the Seven Eyed Supervision Model which is a process-oriented approach, integrating the relational and systemic aspects of supervision. It focuses on the relationships between client, therapist and supervisor, and takes into consideration the interplay between each relationship and their context within the wider system.

I will offer support and help you to explore the relationship with your clients, for example, exploring transference and countertransference and the challenges that can bring. This includes any issues arising from sessions, celebrating progress and success, discussing any difficulties, blind spots or ethical dilemmas, increasing your self-awareness and resilience, and thinking about ways to facilitate positive changes in your clients and improve their wellbeing.

Fees for Supervision sessions are charged at £50 for 90 minutes. I offer concessions for trainee counsellors.
