I initially trained in Person Centred Therapy and completed my 100 client hours to complete my training at North Staffs MIND.
Following my training I secured a job as a counsellor in a Therapeutic Community (TC) within a category B prison. Here I was able to gain extensive experience of working psychodynamically and the majority of the TC population suffered from complex trauma and personality disorders.
I was promoted to Therapy Manager of a 40 bed TC and later managed a 20 bed Assessment Unit and managed the opening of a 20 bed TC before leaving the Prison estate in December 2017.
Before leaving the the prison and TC world I trained in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy because I could see the value in working in different ways within the space between client and therapist. The equine qualification led me to open a Community Interest Company in 2018 and I gained funding from local authorities and the National Lottery.
The CIC delivered many hours of therapy to people in need win the city of Stoke on Trent including young adults and children in care. I am extremely proud of setting up this organisation and it was a difficult decision to leave the project in September 2019.
One of the reasons I left the CIC was to further explore my fascination with Breathwork. I had read about the power of Breathwork many years ago and found a trainer in the summer of 2019. I had several 1 to 1 sessions of Breathwork before entering into a Breathwork training program in October 2019. The training is deep and challenging and allowed me to develop an energetic depth that was previously unknown to me. The Breathwork training has taken me to the next level of my capabilities and I am now able to offer Breathwork sessions after graduating from First-Breath training in September 2021.
I consider equine as 3 dimensional and Breathwork as 4 dimensional.
In 2018 I completed my EMDR training through EMDR London/Munich. I have seen great benefits for my clients working with EMDR and offer this way of working to clients who are seeking it.
I have been a qualified supervisor since 2011 and have supported trainees/students in completing their courses and beyond. I now bring elements and learning from Psychodynamic group work, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Breathwork into my supervision practice.
