Counsellors help people to explore feelings and emotions that are often related to their experiences. This allows clients to reflect on what is happening to them and consider alternative ways of doing things.
I work in a confidential setting and listen attentively to clients, offering them the time, empathy and respect they need to express their feelings and perhaps understand themselves from a different perspective.
My aim is reduce a clients confusion and enable them to cope with challenges, or to make positive changes in their life where necessary.
My background of 22yrs is working within conflict zones, which places me in the appropriate position to fully understand and empathise with Victims and Survivors, those who would have been through a traumatic event whether outside Northern Ireland or as a direct result of the troubles or life experiences.
If you’ve experienced trauma, you may be struggling with upsetting emotions, frightening memories, or a sense of constant danger. Or you may feel numb, disconnected, and unable to trust other people. When bad things happen, it can take a while to get over the pain and feel safe again. But with the right self-help strategies and support, you can speed your recovery. Whether the trauma happened years ago or yesterday, you can heal and move on.
