I offer counselling/therapy to individual and couples, through my private practice as well working as an Associate Counsellor with another organisation. I also work as a Specialist Mentor for university students with Mental Health support needs.

In the past I held counselling roles in charities including: EVA with survivors of domestic abuse and CRUSE Bereavement Care and in the NHS at The Mulberry Practice, working with asylum seekers as well as Workplace Wellbeing, who provide a service to NHS employees.

In the early 1990's I was a Volunteer Counsellor at Rape Crisis and Sheffield Alcohol Advisory Service and completed RELATE (couple counselling) training and practiced as one of their counsellors.

Between these two periods I took a break from counselling to have a family (three children) and developed my career in education, most recently working with students with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities and in particular Specific Learning Difficulties (e.g. dyslexia).

I have previously worked in a variety of roles in psychiatric hospitals, adult and community education & educational and vocational guidance. I have taught English to speakers of other languages, including indigenous communities, refugees and asylum seekers and migrant workers.

My approach is based on person-centred values. I support clients to gain greater understanding and insight, to make choices and decisions which enable them to make changes in their lives, and assist in learning new skills to work towards achieving goals.

As an Integrative Therapist I believe it is important to work with you as a whole person; your emotions, behaviour, thinking, physiological responses and spiritual needs. I see these as interdependent. I use a range of different strategies or interventions, as appropriate to the needs of individual clients, with their agreement.

My areas of experience include: Relationship/attachment issues, difficulties with partnerships/friendships, couple counselling, life changes/stages. Difficulties at work, stress, confidence and self-esteem, spiritual issues, anxiety, depression and suicidal feelings. Loss and bereavement in it's various forms.

I believe it is crucial to keep learning and improving my skills and regularly attend CPD events. I undertook the CRUSE Supervisor Training and supervised two of their volunteer counsellors. Another course I attended was a Certificate in Couples & Relationship Counselling which I completed in February 2016 before re-starting my couple counselling work.

I completed a Nature as Co-Therapist course in 2015 and I'm keen to use Ecotherapy - working outside if this appeals.
