My background originally was in finance until I trained as a yoga teacher and found something that truly brought me joy. Through my work as a yoga teacher I came in touch with people with mental health concerns and felt somewhat de-skilled and felt ethically that I needed further training. This lead to my becoming a therapist.
I work on increasing client self-awareness and self-acceptance through exploration and mindfulness. It is my belief that often our inability to accept ourselves despite our flaws is at the root of a lot of our suffering. We want to be better and we want our lives to be better and believe that the way to do that is to be hard on ourselves to do better. My view is that you change more by accepting first where you are rather than rejecting where you are.
After my initial training I have continued to develop my skills so that I work integratively to find the way that works best for each unique client. I have also trained in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and use my Yoga and Mindfulness background in my work if that is what the client wants/likes. I have trained in EMDR and work with traumatised clients.
Being able to encourage clients to see their own value and worth is a privilege. I would be a person who gently allows rather than demanding change happen. Change comes from the "aha" moments from within rather than from an external experience. My recent training in Trauma Studies helps me support clients more fully
