I am a Certified Play Therapist and Counsellor.
For children, play is one of the most powerful ways of communicating and working things out.
Play therapy can help children to work through issues such as: grief, loss, bereavement, separation or divorce, illness, attachment difficulties or trauma.
Play therapy provides a safe space to express feelings and find ways of coping with challenges.
Children receive emotional support and can learn to understand more about their own feelings and thoughts.
Sometimes they may play out traumatic or difficult life experiences in order to make sense of their past and cope better with their future.
Children may learn to manage relationships and conflicts in more appropriate ways.
Play therapy can reduce anxiety and raise self-esteem.
Sessions are child-led. The therapist creates a trusting relationship in which the child feels accepted, safe and understood.
I have wide experience of working in schools as a SENCO and specialist teacher with children and young people who have a range of individual needs including autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, down syndrome, physical disability, visual impairment and medical needs.
