I am Head of Treatment and Counselling at Broadway Lodge a specialist addiction treatment centre and have extensive experience of working in treatment centres in North Somerset. I have a diploma in leadership and management, am a qualified counsellor (holding a higher diploma in counselling) and also has accredited professional registration with the National Counselling Society (NCS). I am responsible for leading the counselling and support team and for developing innovations in the therapeutic programme that draws on evidence-based research and practice. I am also a Director of a Addiction Recovery Support House called The Sober Place in Weston-Super-Mare and run a private practice called Markkus Garvey Counselling Services. I am integrative trained counsellor able to use different models of therapy to bring about personal development and self awareness. My passion is attachment theory which explores the impact of dysfunctional relationships between child and mother or primary caregiver and the impact this may have in adulthood.
My previous career was in property – I trained as a surveyor and hold a degree in estates management that enables me to balance my therapeutic knowledge and skills with a commercial acuity. I bring to my roles a passionate focus on improving the treatment experience for patients, driving up standards of care and reporting to a high level of quality, alongside making sure the business is run along exemplary lines.
