My Approach: I have a person-centred, pluralistic approach to therapy, believing that all humans have the potential to experience personal peace despite the cards they have been dealt at birth and/or through their child and adulthood.
I am a highly compassionate, inclusive, supportive counsellor who welcomes all whilst respecting each person’s personal identification and cultural background.
I believe that each person is the expert of themselves and that we all have capacity to reflect and take realistic steps to action our own choices, whether young or old.
My life-long interest is in helping people to discover their own wisdom and then become empowered and live a more fulfilled life, to make sense and connect better with their own lived experience and to increase their own self-knowledge.
My pluralistic philosophy is in harmony with who I perceive myself to be with my unique blend of life events and experiences plus the influence of family and societal systems.
Where it all started: I took up photography, initially thinking it would take me around the world but in fact it brought the world to me. I applied my practical and creative skills to become a community artist where I learnt to use photography to help people who were marginalised from the mainstream and gained my specialism of working with young people who struggle to fit into school. I then worked for 17 years as a young person's intervention worker, specialising in ‘hidden harm’ (being affected by someone else's substance (mis)use) and I am still a practicing youth worker. It was a natural step for me to become a counsellor for adults and young people and I continue to work cross-culturally and cross-generationally. My specialist skillset includes bereavement and loss, substance misuse and hidden harm, working with childhood/adult trauma, respecting all neurodiversity.
