I’m an experienced, NCS accredited counsellor in my mid-thirties. The therapeutic work I do is mindfulness-based and inspired by the teacher Eckhart Tolle. What does this mean? Well, in a session with me, you’ll be encouraged to bring your challenges into the present moment; to look at them live and in the Now. When we are able to tell our story from a place of presence, that story - however painful - can become a key to a place of peace and acceptance, which is actually there already, only masked by the busy mind. The wonderful thing is, you are not your thoughts. Behind your non-stop thinking, there is actually a place of deep stillness.
ou may be struggling with anxiety or depression. Perhaps there is a decision you need to make and you want someone to speak to about it. Maybe an issue from your past is haunting you and stopping you moving forward. Whatever your challenges, if you’d like to book a session with me, either in Totnes or online, I can offer a friendly, compassionate space where you’ll feel safe to open up and share. Counselling with me is warm and informal, without any complex jargon. With a background in Zen Buddhism, I know the importance of a good sense of humour, especially when it comes to discussing the things that feel most important to us.
A little about me then:
I studied at Heartwood College of Counselling and have since worked as a self-employed therapist as well as through the Apricot Centre wellness service. I’ve offered counselling through home-education support groups and often hold a therapeutic role at large events such as Buddhafield Festival. As a keen poet with a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing, I run fairly regular writing workshops, often on the theme of Haiku. When I’m not counselling or teaching, I can usually be found playing my bass guitar, hiking on Dartmoor or enjoying a coffee and a good book in a café!
Payment:
Sessions with me are priced on a sliding scale, with three options available for an hour. Please choose the price which you can afford. I do this because I want to make counselling available to as many people as possible.
Cost of a one hour session (choose your price):
£35 - £45 - £55
If you get touch, I will offer you an assessment session - at The Nautilus Rooms, or online -where we will have the chance to get to know each other and decide if we’re a good fit. If it’s a yes from both us, then we can book in some sessions and go from there. (Note as of September 2023 assessment sessions are chargeable according to above rates)
Ok, that’s all for now. I look forward to hearing from you.
With Peace,
Matthew
