I bring to the counselling relationship a sense of awe for the human condition, an authentic approach, curiosity about you and an open mind and heart.
I aspire to provide you with a space in which you feel safe and really listened to. I will be fully accepting of who you are and what you bring.
It is often a specific problem which brings people to counselling and you may need to know that I have experience of working with many issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar, trauma, abuse, relationship issues, unwanted patterns of behaviour, issues that arise to of living in our society with neurodiversity, and much more.
I have worked intensely alongside people with "personality disorder" diagnoses and found how an accepting and supportive one to one relationship can really make a difference to them in their journey to a stronger sense of self and greater management of their difficulties.
I offer face to face individual counselling and couples counselling and in this period of lockdown I am only offering Skype couples and individual counselling and Skype supervision.
Relationship Counselling
In my work with couples and with relationships of any kind I offer equal empathy and regard to each person, interested in understanding what each person is telling me. This helps empathy and understanding to develop between clients and eases stuckness and discord in relationships. I can also offer practical suggestions and guidance in the various issues you bring if you so desire.
My Background and Counselling Experience
I have worked in different settings with children for twenty five years and my main focus has been to listen to them and their parents and learn from them what they need. For six years I worked in an NHS Sure Start supporting parents in their aim to be the best parents they can. I ran groups and I also worked one to one as a Family Support Worker.
I worked for Place2Be, counselling children one to one in a primary school alongside which I completed the Place2Be specialist training in counselling children.
I worked for two years at Sheffield Alcohol Advisory Service where my clients appreciated my holistic approach in which they felt safe to explore all issues that came up for them in the counselling session.
I worked for two years in the Sheffield University Counselling Service as a counsellor for students
I have been working with individuals and couples as an Associate at Sheffield Central Counselling for over four years.
I am a Registered Accredited member of the National Counselling Society and I work according to their Ethical Framework.
I have a particular interest personally in meditation and spirituality.
