I believe in the uniqueness of each person and as such any counselling must meet the assessed, agreed needs of the individual. I recognise and validate how talking about some difficulties can be daunting; however I draw on my compassion, empathy and respect to potentially facilitate us building a confidential, safe therapeutic alliance. This I hope will enable you to talk to me about what is causing you distress at this time. Sometimes our thoughts and feelings affect how we relate with our 'self and 'other people' and can affect our usual way of managing distress and relationships. There may, however, be triggers that remind us of past events, provoking thoughts and feelings which may at times lead us to behave in ways that might be harmful or unhelpful in bringing resolution to our problem. I advocate empowerment through understanding, having choices and making appropriate safe change. Together we may explore and consider alternative paths to help you make changes to manage your distress and achieve your goals.
The first session is where you can explain your difficulty; this will help my understanding of what is happening. We will agree a counselling alliance, with clear boundaries, how long and what difficulties you wish to work through.
Sessions are for one hour with the last ten minutes for us to reflect.
I provide supervision for other practitioners who are supporting people who experienced historical abuse' I can offer pre-trial therapy for people who have reported historical abuse to the police.
I work with people adjusting to physical disability and those people and families managing the day to day challenges of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
I can offer solution focused brief therapy.
