When life feels hard to cope with, you want a safe place to explore what’s going on for you, a place where you know you’ll be listened to and you don’t have to pretend that everything’s OK. Sometimes you can find this with friends or family, but sometimes that doesn’t feel possible or helpful; you may have reasons why your nearest and dearest are the last people you want to share your thoughts and feelings with. This is where talking to a counsellor, a neutral person who isn’t part of your life, can make a difference. I offer you that safe place, working within a person-centred relationship; this means that you won’t be told what you should, or shouldn’t think, feel, say or do, and anything can be talked about. Your independence and autonomy are always respected.
Each client is a unique individual and so I work differently with each person, depending on what brings you to counselling and what you hope to get from sessions. I often work with clients who bring these issues:
anxiety, panic attacks and stress
finding ways to live with a long term health condition, for example a diagnosis of cancer, sight loss, fibromyalgia
bereavement and other kinds of loss, including miscarriage or the end of a relationship
feelings of low mood, or depression
trauma with intrusive memories or thoughts, flashbacks or nightmares (please let me know if this is what leads to you to consider counselling)
personal, family and professional relationships (only one to one counselling)
confidence and self-esteem
I can also help with many other difficulties which might lead you to consider counselling. I offer counselling by phone and video.
