Who can you help?
As a qualified counsellor, I work with many common challenges and issues including relationship issues, loss, identity, depression and anxiety.
However, I also have developed specialism in working with all sorts of bereavement including pregnancy and infant loss, spousal loss, parental loss, loss of a friend, traumatic loss, loss from long ago, pet loss, loss from suicide and even concerns around your own mortality or an impending loss of a loved one.
Often I see clients who, whatever the reason, feel that they work through their problem alone anymore; that they need help from someone to just listen, to help them to manage their overwhelming and exhausting emotions (be-it fear, anger, anxiety, sadness, depression or grief) and to reassure them they will be okay; what they are experiencing is not forever.
We talk. I listen. I might, if helpful, teach you calming and soothing strategies. I might explain what's happening to your body to help you to know your response is human and quite understandable, even if unbearable at times. This is very reassuring for the people I see and helps them to understand what is happening and why.
I can help you to change the way you judge yourself and help you to feel more self compassionate, often through sharing mindfulness approaches, now scientifically researched to be highly effective with a range of physical and emotional issues.
I basically see clients who want some help and reassurance whilst they work out what is going on, why and how to help themselves to feel better.
If that's you, I would love to work with you.
What's it like to work with you?
How we work will be very unique based on you, your difficulties and preferences. However, I always aim to create in our time together a genuine, supportive relationship that helps you to explore your thoughts and feelings, at your own pace.
My clients say I help them because I always approach them with a deep sense of compassion, insight, understanding and empathy - they feel listened to and understood. And that's the sort of place I hope you too will be able to bring your worries, fears and emotions. Together, we can then work out a way forward. I help you to help yourself. You are certainly in control and set the pace.
I am:
Down-to-earth: I avoid jargon and focus on making our sessions accessible and honest.
Flexible: I offer various techniques, from various types of talking therapy to body regulation techniques that can help calm the nervous system (e.g. mindfulness, breathing, EFT etc) , depending on your preferences.
Safe and comfortable setting: My counselling space is in a peaceful garden annex—a non-clinical, soothing environment where you will receive a very personal and relaxed service.
I know starting counselling isn't always easy or straight forward. You may still have some doubts and fears - can talking to a stranger really help for example. To reassure you, my clients comment that after the first session, they always feel confident about coming back and they quickly see impact and begin to notice they are changing positively.
