NCPS | ‘Dark Tourism’ - Seeking Members Experiences

The Society has been contacted by a person who is writing a book on “a phenomena widely known as ‘Dark Tourism’; it is defined as people who travel to actual sites of death, for example Auschwitz-Birkenau, or places that are identified with death, but where no death has actually occurred, for example any graveyard, or the Imperial War Museum. There has been some academic work carried out on this subject in the UK, which suggests that the motivations given for people who visit such sites are both wide ranging and personal.”

If there is any other research or information that you are aware of – please can you send it to support@nationalcounsellingsociety.org and we will pass this on to the person who contacted us.

(We have referred the person to Freud’s ‘Beyond The Pleasure Principle’).
