We, the National Counselling Society (NCS), believe that membership of a professional association is essential as it not only gives confirmation of professional standing to individual practitioners but also to their peers, service users (clients) and potential employers. Unlike many other professional associations, we map our Registrant grades against the Ofqual qualification framework.
Focused on supporting the advancement of counselling and psychotherapy, and in recognition of the different 'life stages' of a counsellor/psychotherapist, we offer various membership levels for Registrant and Non-Registrant membership. For further details about individual membership please click on the following link:

For registered members, listed on our Accredited Register, there is a clear pathway for membership grade enhancement. Registrants are entitled to, and we actively encourage, upgrade applications should the required criteria be met.
The great news is - upgrading your membership with the NCS is FREE!
The following NCS Registrant grades are available:
Accredited Registrant (MNCS Accred) - A practitioner who has met the standards for registration.
Accredited Professional Registrant (MNCS Prof Accred) - A practitioner who has met the standards for registration and demonstrated substantial post-training professional development.
Senior Accredited Registrant (MNCS Snr Accred) - A practitioner who has met the standards for Accredited Professional Registrant membership and has also gained an advanced qualification and further professional development.
Fellow Registrant (FNCS) A practitioner who has met the standards for Accredited membership and has significant further experience and qualifications.

These are the current requirements in force as set by the Society.
