NCPS | NCS and NAPAC launch new e-learning course today

The National Counselling Society (NCS) and the National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC) have partnered to offer a new online training course written by NAPAC ‘Working with Adult Survivors of Child Abuse in a Trauma-Informed Way’ which is aimed at counsellors and professionals, from a variety of backgrounds. You can reach the course here:

Why the course and collaboration?

Vicky Parkinson, CEO of the National Counselling Society, explains: “We are delighted to launch this training with NAPAC, their expertise in this area is invaluable and the course certainly reflects this. We are aware from speaking with our members and other health and social care professionals that this is an area they felt they needed more training and knowledge. By offering this as an online course we can reach more professionals to help them enhance their knowledge and understanding. We are acutely aware of how busy professionals are, so it is a real bonus that this can be completed in their own time, at their own pace, wherever they are based.”

NAPAC is the UK’s leading national charity offering support to adult survivors of all types of childhood abuse—physical, sexual, emotional and neglect. NAPAC runs a free support line for adults who experienced any type of abuse in childhood. NAPAC receives calls from survivors seeking advice about counselling and support and also receives many calls from counsellors wanting advice or information about how they can best support adult survivors of child abuse.

Gabrielle Shaw, CEO of NAPAC, explains: “Many professionals contact us for advice on how best to support clients who suffered abuse in childhood, so we know there’s a gap in knowledge and confidence. This new e-learning course will enhance professional development and help practitioners to offer a service which is empowering to survivors, based on the latest trauma-informed practice.”
